Born in American Samoa but raised in independent Samoa, independent artist MRUNKNOWN launched his musical journey in early 2019 by teaching himself audio engineering and recording entirely through YouTube. This dedication birthed a prolific catalog of over 60+ released tracks and an extensive vault of unreleased music that seamlessly blends reggae, hip-hop, R&B, and pop. His talent quickly propelled him from a humble home studio to major stages, opening for legendary Pasefika artists such as Josh Tatofi, Spawnbreezie, Stan Walker, The Jets, Punialavaa, and Mr. Tee. Beyond large-scale concerts, MRUNKNOWN serves his local community as a versatile songwriter, composing custom tracks for funerals, birthdays, village traditional longboat (fautasi) races, cricket and rugby anthems, and local business commercials for radio and television. While balancing his professional role in the emergency management field at the American Samoa Department of Homeland Security. He remains deeply humble putting God first in everything he does.

THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME “MRUNKNOWN”

Before establishing himself as a rising musical artist, MRUNKNOWN built his legacy as an athlete under his birth name, Afasene Tasi, excelling in rugby and track & field at Marist Brothers School in Mulivai and Saint Joseph's College in Alafua (Apia, Samoa). Upon returning back to American Samoa in early 2005, he solidified his reputation in high school football as he was known as one of the best running backs of his generation out of Leone High School. When transitioning into the music industry, he intentionally adopted the stage name MRUNKNOWN to secure a fresh start where people would acknowledge him solely on his music rather than his past sports fame. Today, this anonymity creates a compelling full-circle moment for fans who dynamically connect the acclaimed artist to the legendary athlete they once heard of as the well-known high school football player. Driven by deep humility and an enduring love for his craft, MRUNKNOWN continues to leverage his unique journey to inspire the next generation..
